What is Belgium consular certification/legalization?
Vietnam and Belgium have not yet signed any bilateral or multilateral agreements to simplify document legalization procedures. Therefore, to use your documents in Belgium, you must complete the consular legalization process to ensure that the documents are recognized by the competent Belgian authorities.
Consular legalization certifies that:
- The original signature and seal on the document are valid.
- The document is issued by a competent authority in Vietnam.
The legalization process consists of two main steps:
- Legalization in Vietnam: The document must be authenticated by the competent authority in Vietnam that issued it (for example: the Department of Justice, the Passport Department, etc.).
- Legalization in Belgium: After being legalized in Vietnam, the document must be submitted to the Embassy/Consulate of Belgium in Vietnam for consular legalization.
