Procedure for Consular Legalization of Vietnamese Documents for Use in Australia
Step 1: Notarized Translation into English
Bring the original documents to be legalized to a state notary office or the Department of Justice for notarized translation into English.

Step 2: Apply for consular certification
Prepare the following documents:
- Consular/legalization application form according to form LS/HPH-2012/TK or printed online application form.
- Original documents to be legalized for use in Australia + 01 copy.

Procedure for Consular Legalization of Australian Documents for Use in Vietnam
Step 1: Notarization/Certification by an Australian Notary Public
- Bring the original documents and have them certified by a notary public in Australia.
- If the document is a translation, it must be translated and signed by a NAATI-certified translator.
Step 2: Authentication by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)
The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is the only authority authorized to provide consular certification and only legalizes public documents that:
- Are originals issued by Australian government agencies or officials.
- Are originals issued by Australian higher education institutions.
- Are notarized copies certified by an Australian notary public.
